The 12 disciples Christ did choose
To send forth, to preach and to heal
Fishermen, some were they by trade
But none of high “esteem” fitted the bill
Odd it would appear, to the outside world
To choose ‘nonentities’ for such a ministry
Mary Magdalene, during the days of old
Followed the Saviour everywhere He did go
A lady amongst men, yet accepted and commended
For her loyalty, her faithfulness to Christ, her Messiah
Never once was she accused of impropriety
Except when an alabaster flask, she willingly broke
The Lord calls, the Lord chooses, the Lord sends forth 2 by 2
Male and female sent He, for the reaping of the harvest
A male and female team, He did send from Singapore
To establish His supernatural ministry, across the sea
Their pairing, their unique ministry, the locals could not accept
Thinking it odd and not of God, they turned their backs on the work of God
The irony, the oddity of it all; our blindness, our sense of self-righteousness
Persecuting, inflicting pain on our brethren, disobeying God’s commandments
Making judgments on things we neither know nor understand
And declaring as odd the things of God, inevitably contending with God
God’s ways are higher than our ways, His thoughts higher than our thoughts
Who then are we to question the things and the ways of God?
The Odd Pair
“It will be hard”, said a man of God to us
When in 2009, Lord, you called us to Malacca
“Prepare yourselves for tougher times ahead”
Malacca will be harder than Singapore, it was foretold
To tip the scale further, you picked an unusual duo
A young Christian, a former man of business and vice
A messy family man, married and divorced
Him, you did pair; with a respectable, married lady
Differing gender, differing culture, differing outlooks
A divorced man, English educated and western oriented
A married woman, Mandarin educated, conservatively Asian
An odd pairing in man’s eyes, shattering society’s norms
The odd pairing; it did present, spiritual and social dilemmas
Amongst the locals, the church and Christian communities
Not husband and wife? How odd, their expressions said it all
Their silence never could conceal their disdain and their doubts
Our “odd” pairing and our unique ministry, the locals could not accept
Dubbed odd and an occult, persecution and slander rained heavily upon us
17 months we weathered the storm; rejection and isolation being our norm
Today, the storm is but a fading memory. Our acquittal; the fruits of the ministry
Though discomfited by the “odd” pairing, we obeyed the Lord
And received His blessed assurance, in the form of personal scriptures
God’s ways are higher than our ways, His thoughts higher than our thoughts
From Noah’s ark to the virgin birth, who can comprehend the things of God?
Truly, to obey is better than to disobey

十二门徒主拣选，布道医治奉差传。
渔夫税吏尽下品，实无一人身份尊。
世人眼中何奇异，小民岂能承事工？
抹大拉的马利亚，古时紧随主脚踪。
异性中间一女子，竟被接纳与肯定。
因她忠诚随救主，挚爱基督无二心。
从未被控不洁净，虽曾受责碎玉瓶。
主召主选主差传，两两收割入葡园。
异性组合自狮城，越洋艰辛建神工。
组合奇异工独特，当地实难予认可。
每每怪之不属神，转背弃绝神事工。
何其愚昧并自义，逼迫弟兄违诫命。
论断己身所不知，弃绝圣言抗拒神。
神之道路实至高，神之意念何其深。
受造岂敢不自量，越位自高指控神?
奇怪的搭配
神人奉命传信息，前路崎岖步履难
时值公元2009，主命开赴马六甲。
“预备己心更壮胆，须知前路多辛艰。
马国更比狮城硬，坚固营垒多争战”
在主眼中仍看小，更选独特奇组合。
年轻信徒未成熟，身份屡屡受责难。
曾经商人家事乱，结婚离婚争议多。
主竟搭配一姐妹，已婚保守受尊敬。
不同性别与文化，外表迥然差异大。
离异男士非传统，英文教育华语差；
已婚女士人保守，传统亚裔华文化。
世人眼见真希奇，震动社会价值观。
奇异搭配兀然现，属灵属世遭困境。
教会团体齐排斥，既非夫妻怎配搭？
荒唐希奇不理解，表现回应自显明。
沉默亦不能掩盖，怀疑鄙夷与不懈。
配搭奇怪工独特，当地教会不可解。
被判怪诞加异端，逼迫毁谤暴雨降。
饱经风雨十七月，每每孤立被弃绝。
而今风雨成退色，欣看累累事工果。
尴尬搭配虽困窘，摒弃为难顺服主。
决然领受祂祝福，各人更得神印证。
神的道路不可测，祂的意念高过我。
挪亚建舟于旱地，童女生子更希奇。
谁能理会神行事？唯知听命胜献祭。
