Close Intimacy with God

1 Samuel 16:13-14 "So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed David in the presence of his brothers and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came upon David in power. Samuel then went to Ramah. Now the Spirit of the Lord had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord tormented him."

Bill Johnson quotes: "Revival history is filled with stories of His manifest presence resting upon His people. HE lives in all believers, but the glory of His presence comes to rest on only a few. Where miracles are absent, so is the glory of God, which is the manifested presence of Jesus."

The Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul because of his fear of men that led him to disobey God (1Samuel 15:22-24).

A principal of the School of Academy who had attended CKRM Petaling Jaya met Dr Ernest Chan who is the President of ARC, USA in Kuala Lumpur recently enquired from Dr Ernest Chan about me. Dr Chan has been a friend, a counsellor and a blessing to my spiritual growth and we have travelled together during mission trips. Dr Chan replied saying that I have a close intimacy with the Lord but lacks EQ - (Dr Chan's term for Public Relation).

Dr Chan has said correctly on the former however on the latter, I would add that we cannot enjoy a close intimacy with the Lord if we have to compromise with men because of fear. We have to fear only God alone, not men and many people of God failed in this area when the Lord puts them to the test of faithfulness. Those whom God has called and chosen must remain faithful to God (Rev. 17:14).

Our Lord Jesus Christ never had a good Public Relation with most of the Pharisees and He continuously rebuked them for their hypocrisy (Matthew 23) openly and without fear.

Like the case of Saul, the Spirit of The Lord (Anointing) left many men of God and they went into spiritual dryness without even realizing it was due to sin. For Saul, it was the case of the sin of disobedience. At CKRM, we have witnessed God's restoration on people whom He had used mightily in the past. See testimony vide ... http://www.ckrm.org/?p=1620

We can have a close intimacy with God if we trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5). With a close intimacy with God, there is no need to manipulate people or situations through playing Church politics in order to use our human effort to fight for position. Politic will only cause disunity and does more harm to a ministry or the Body of Christ.

Saul served as a king and always prevented others from getting what he had achieved. Saul had never got to the place of intimacy with God where he can be a grateful recipient of God’s goodness. Hence, such fear led him to disobedience and ultimately being rejected by God because Saul was no longer a vessel who God could use. 1 Samuel 28:17, “The Lord has torn the kingdom out of your hands and given to one of your neighbours - to David.”

Nobody can become powerful in life without God. It is not the money or fame that makes people powerful but it is due to their close intimacy with God. 2 Chronicles 27:6, “Jotham grew powerful because he walked steadfastly before the Lord his God.”

We can only enjoy a close intimacy with God when we walk in His will and this is our best protection as well as to earn His grace, mercy and favour. If our walk is right with Him, we will govern His house and take charge of His court (Zechariah 3:6-7). Hence, there is no lack in everything i.e. provision, resources, finance, manpower etc... as our Lord will provide if we are willing and obedient to our calling (Isaiah 1:19).
